Researchers at the University of Surrey and Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. in the UK is currently planning to deliver Android handsets priced under 300 pounds into space. The handset is not yet known names will be transmitted via a satellite Strand-1 in orbit around the earth at the end of 2011 this.
Researchers want to know whether small and inexpensive smartphone that is placed in orbit will be able to withstand extreme changes in temperature, gravity, and atmosphere that occurs, when compared with the satellite in general.
Lead researcher explains that the smartphone has many components that are sophisticated but the size, weight and price far below the satellite systems that exist today. And because many smartphones running on OS free then the developer could just develop applications for the satellite. If a smartphone can be proven to work in space then this will open many new possibilities.
In this design handsets that will be installed can send pictures and messages to the earth through the radio system. In addition, this smartphone will be used also to operate certain parts of the satellite.
